Vintage Revenge Of The Jedi "Original" R2-D2 48 Back Proof Card
Posted by Bryan on March 26, 2008 at 07:17 PM CST:

Vintage proof cards from the Revenge of the Jedi comprise the largest quantity of any line of Star Wars proofs. It was widely thought that approximately 50 of each proof card were produced, although some characters do not seem to exist in such a high quantity. Within the Revenge subset of proof cards exist three cards which elicit a higher demand than others: Boba Fett (of course), the odd black and white "pilot printing" template card, and our lovable R2-D2.

There are actually three different R2-D2 proof cards in the Revenge subset (we'll get to all of them in due time) but the most interesting is surely this 48 back proof card with the original 12 back photo on the front. It's not entirely clear why Kenner made this card - were they considering re-releasing the original figural R2-D2 or were they just going to switch the photo up but still use the sensorscope figure? Or was someone just clowning around? Well, we may never know but if someone does find out why not try finding out the reason for the blank nameplate and missing "Kenner" logo as well.
